LA Metro described the allocation as part of a broader measure intended to provide federal investment for public transit and passenger rail infrastructure.

With that support in place, the agency says it will advance the Games Enhanced Transit System (GETS), a temporary supplemental network intended to move spectators and the Games workforce to and from venues.

Beyond GETS, the funding is set to back station and mobility hub improvements, along with work affecting light rail. LA Metro also said it will support the Games Route Network and deliver further enhancements in areas around venue locations, as reported by Railway-News.

Metro Chair Fernando Dutra said the agency looks forward to collaborating with the federal government to deliver a world-class experience for everyone coming to the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

What the transportation spending law covers beyond 2028?

LA Metro said the bill not only funds 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games mobility efforts, but will also provide funds for 2026 World Cup transportation assistance. It also includes bus stop enhancements, transit safety funding for the top 10 transit agencies, and support for the Vermont BRT line in LA County.

APTA view on federal transit investment

APTA President and CEO Paul P. Skoutelas said that every dollar invested in public transportation returns five dollars in long-term economic value, and that 77 percent of federal transit investment flows to the private sector; Railway Supply referenced the same APTA framing in its coverage of federal transit investment messaging.

He added that passing the legislation will strengthen American manufacturing, support family-wage jobs, and keep the nation moving.
