Mordialloc level crossing removals are set to make 2026 a major year for Victoria’s Level Crossing Removal Project in Mordialloc and Aspendale. The update is outlined by Rail Express.

Mordialloc level crossing removals: what’s changing in 2026
Two more level crossings — McDonald Street and Station Street — are scheduled to be removed in 2026. At the same time, the new elevated Mordialloc Station is planned to open to the public. Ongoing project information is available via Victoria’s Big Build.
Victoria’s Level Crossing Removal Project reaches major build milestones
Crews have installed all 68 L-beams for the new rail bridge structures at McDonald Street and Station Street. Now the focus has moved to the elevated Mordialloc Station. Teams are building the station platforms.

Key prefabricated components arrived late last year. They included sections of the elevated platform, lift shafts and building structures. The project also includes 30 prefabricated station building modules that have been delivered and installed, as noted in an update from Railway Supply.
Walking tours, car park works and next steps toward opening
Over the coming months, the project team will host guided walking tours. Community members can view the works up close. The tours will cover what’s happening on the ground. They will also outline what’s coming up in the countdown to the station opening. Project engineers will share how the work will improve safety, travel reliability and local connections.
Bookings are available online via the walking tour event page. Registration is essential. Spots are limited.
Over the coming months, crews will keep working on the station platforms and buildings. They will also start construction of the new commuter car park in Mordialloc. As the project nears completion, Metro Trains teams will begin testing services on the new elevated rail bridges. This is in preparation for passengers.
The new link road to Nepean Highway will also open to traffic. It will offer a safer and less congested connection. Meanwhile, landscaping will begin across Mordialloc and Aspendale.
