USA: MARC Train service will add a direct weekday link between Montgomery County and Baltimore on September 28, cutting several current journey times for passengers across central Maryland.

MARC Train service cuts selected journey times

The Maryland Transit Administration will create the connection by adjusting existing operations, without adding annual operating costs. Its Brunswick–Camden Run-Through service will connect the two lines, with one morning train to Baltimore and one evening trip back toward Brunswick.

“This expansion of our MARC train service will further the Moore-Miller Administration’s priority of connecting people to opportunity,” said MTA Administrator Tony Bridges. “Baltimore and Montgomery County are home to millions of residents as well as, major employers, educational institutions and medical centers. Providing a direct link between these communities will help build a stronger and more sustainable Maryland.”

The Silver Spring–Baltimore Camden Station journey is scheduled to fall from 118 to 57 minutes. Germantown–College Park will drop from about 90 to 46 minutes, while Gaithersburg–Baltimore Camden Station will decrease from around 137 to 78 minutes.

The route will directly serve Brunswick, Point of Rocks, Barnesville, Germantown, Metropolitan Grove, Gaithersburg, Rockville, Kensington, Silver Spring, College Park, Laurel and Baltimore. Several existing Brunswick and Camden Line schedules will change to accommodate the new operation.

What changes for passengers

The published Brunswick Line timetable identifies the morning through train as Train 830, leaving Brunswick at 6:00 a.m. and reaching Baltimore Camden Station at 7:59 a.m. It will run directly from Silver Spring to College Park without serving Washington Union Station, then continue through Laurel. The return Camden Line timetable lists Train 831 leaving Baltimore at 5:00 p.m. and reaching Brunswick at 7:05 p.m. MTA expects the revised rail times on these trips to be competitive with driving between the same destinations.
