LTG Link Begins a New Phase of Fleet Modernization

LTG Link received the first FLIRT electric multiple unit from Stadler’s production facility at Siedlce in Poland. The delivery represents the initiation of deliveries from the contract in 2023.

Since Poland’s gauge is a 1435 mm gauge and Lithuania’s is a 1520 mm network, Stadler delivered the car bodies and bogies in dismounts. The cars went in trailers to the Vilnius Intermodal Terminal, where specialists will couple the train together in preparation for future tests.

Dynemic trials have been in store for late October, and the train’s entry into service is predicted for the year 2026. The new variant is a critical milestone in the modernization process of the national rail system, extending more comfort, safety, and accessibility to passengers.

LTG Link Focuses on Comfort and Energy Efficiency

The FLIRT accommodates 200 passengers and boasts specific zones for disabled travelers. Due to the wider Lithuania’s 1520 mm track, the carriage body is wider by 60 centimeters compared to the regular editions, providing more space and comfortable conditions for high-way travels.

The wagon carries an onboard battery system capable of delivering up to 70 kilometers range without catenary power. This technology allows LTG Link to run the train along non-electrified routes, lowering operating expense and carbon footprints.

The €226.5 million contract includes the provision of fifteen electric trains — nine five-car EMUs and six three-car bi-mode battery units — and maintenance and delivery of spare parts up to 2037. The first unit represents the first in the technological shift and sustainable mobility in the field of rail transport from the LTG Link.
