Joint Ukrainian-Italian high-speed rail project will cost US $ 16 billion

Ukrzaliznytsia together with the Italian railway operator Ferrovie Dello Stato Italiane S.P.A. (FS) is considering a high-speed rail project in Ukraine.

According to preliminary estimates, this project may cost 15-16 billion US dollars, reports the railway magazine Railway Supply, citing UZ.
“Our idea is to make the Ukrainian passenger feel European … As I said, this is a very ambitious project, it requires significant financial investments. Now we are only at the beginning of the path. Our task is to make a feasibility study in partnership with our European colleagues ”, – said the acting Chairman of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia Ivan Yurik.

The introduction of high-speed rail traffic in Ukraine is one of the priorities of the state, which is enshrined in the National Transport Strategy of Ukraine for the period up to 2030.
Ukrzaliznytsia is very interested in this project, and by the end of the year hopes to receive a draft feasibility study of the project in order to start further steps.
The construction of a high-speed railway line in the Czech Republic is planned to begin in 2025
Let us remind you that Ukraine and Italy last year discussed the prospects for cooperation in the development of high-speed railway traffic in Ukraine. According to preliminary estimates, the total length of tracks to be built under this project is about 2 000 km.
In February 2021, Ukrzaliznytsia and the Italian company Ferrovie Dello Stato Italiane S.P.A. signed a memorandum of understanding.
