India has completed its first Hyperloop test track, measuring 410 meters, confirmed by Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The project marks a significant milestone for high-speed transportation development in the country.

The project will proceed in two phases, provided initial tests demonstrate positive results. In phase one, an 11.5-kilometer track will be constructed for testing and certification purposes. This was reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

Hyperloop to connect Mumbai and Pune with groundbreaking speed

Hyperloop aims to cut travel time between Mumbai and Pune from three hours to just 25 minutes. The system will operate at a regular speed of 360 km/h, with a maximum of 1,100 km/h.

A team from Avishkar Hyperloop, in collaboration with TuTr Hyperloop, is leading this project. Both teams are based at IIT Madras, located near Chennai, and are known for their engineering innovation.

Hyperloop construction in India: A closer look

Indian Railways invested ₹83 million ($1 million) in the Hyperloop project, signaling commitment to futuristic transit solutions. Construction efforts involve leading companies like L&T Construction, ArcelorMittal, and Hindalco Industries.

The Garuda Vahaan train, weighing 1.2 tons, uses magnetic levitation technology for smooth and high-speed operations. This innovation reduces dependence on traditional rail and road systems while improving efficiency.

Global advancements in Hyperloop technology

China’s Hyperloop T-Flight reached speeds of 1,000 km/h during successful tests conducted in August. Meanwhile, the Netherlands’ Hardt Hyperloop achieved a 30 km/h demonstration speed in September.

India’s Hyperloop project is expected to transform transportation, easing congestion and improving travel efficiency. If successful, this project could inspire similar developments globally.
