FCI food grain train Sairang brings 42 wagons to Mizoram

A Food Corporation of India (FCI) food grain cargo train has reached Sairang Railway Station. It arrived on March 3, 2026, as reported by ITLN.

Also, the movement brought 42 wagons. They carried around 25,900 quintals of rice shipped from Punjab. The shipment underlines the growing role of rail-based freight connectivity in the state.

According to a Press Information Bureau press release, the arrival is described as an important step. It is linked to more efficient supply chain movement for essential commodities within Mizoram. In addition, the same note highlights the increasing operational capability of Sairang Railway Station Mizoram. Freight activity is developing on the route.

Bairabi-Sairang railway line links Aizawl to the network
Meanwhile, this progress is tied to the 51.38 km Bairabi-Sairang railway line. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 13 September 2025. This is noted on the Indian Railways portal.
The link added Sairang to India’s railway map. It now directly connects the state capital, Aizawl, to the national railway network.
Freight operations at Sairang Terminal gather pace
Separately, freight operations on the Bairabi-Sairang section have gained momentum since commissioning. The first freight movement after inauguration saw 21 cement wagons moved to Sairang. It set the stage for regular freight traffic.
At the same time, the Sairang Terminal managed over 30 freight rakes. This was between April 2025 and March 2026. It shows a steady rise in rail-based cargo movement in Mizoram.
The commodities handled included the following:
- 3.5 rakes of cement
- 2 rakes of automobiles
- 0.5 rakes of fertilizers
- 20.5 rakes of stone chips
- 4 rakes of sand
