The agreements cover several railway asset categories. These include regional passenger trains, freight locomotives, and vehicles used in infrastructure works. CAF says the new contracts strengthen EuroMaint’s position in the Nordic railway market. The company works there with passenger operators, freight carriers, and infrastructure managers.

EuroMaint railway maintenance contracts in Sweden

In Sweden, EuroMaint will maintain the Pågatågen fleet. It serves regional rail routes in Skåne, in the south of the country.

Skånetrafiken selected VR Sverige to operate and maintain Pågatågen regional services. Skånetrafiken is the public transport authority in Skåne. The services are due to start under the arrangement in December 2027. Under VR Sverige’s agreement, EuroMaint will maintain 99 X61 regional trains for 9 years.

The work will focus on long-term planning, system reliability, and fleet availability. At the same time, the trains will continue to operate in regional service. Most maintenance will be carried out at the Raus depot in Helsingborg. This will strengthen EuroMaint’s presence in southern Sweden.

Green Cargo Rc/Rd locomotive maintenance

Also, EuroMaint has secured an extension with Green Cargo. It covers a multi-year maintenance agreement for Rc/Rd locomotives. Green Cargo is Sweden’s rail freight operator.

According to CAF, the Rc/Rd fleet is the core of Sweden’s largest operating locomotive fleet. The extended agreement includes locomotive maintenance and the supply of key components.

EuroMaint will support the contract through its Swedish depot network. It stretches from Luleå to Malmö. The network will support fleet availability and operational flexibility. It will also support cost optimisation over the rolling stock’s lifecycle.

Bane NOR infrastructure vehicle contract

Separately, EuroMaint has reinforced its presence in Norway through a contract with Bane NOR. Bane NOR is the Norwegian railway infrastructure manager. The agreement covers maintenance for vehicles used in railway infrastructure works and interventions.

The Norwegian contract has a minimum duration of 4 years. It aims to support safe and reliable operation. The contract concerns assets used to maintain and modernise Norway’s railway infrastructure.

CAF Group’s wider Nordic railway market position

CAF describes Scandinavia as a strategic market for the Spanish group. The company specialises in rolling stock manufacturing and railway solutions.

In recent years, CAF has carried out several projects in the region. These include the supply of trains for the high-speed line between Oslo and the city’s airport. They also include trains for the Helsinki metro. They also include trams for Stockholm, Oslo, and Lund.

In addition, the company has ongoing contracts with Swedish operators Transitio AB and SJ AB. These cover the supply of new regional train fleets. In Finland, CAF is modernising the Helsinki metro signalling system with CBTC. CBTC is a communications-based train control technology.

EuroMaint has more than 1,000 employees. It provides maintenance services for some of the major rail fleets in the Nordic region. The company also supplies rail components to various operators.
