The Euroa Station upgrade is moving into a new phase. Trains passing through the Victorian town are switching to newly laid lines. The new lines are in front of the station. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

That clears the way for the old east track and platform to be removed. This work is part of the Inland Rail project.

Inland Rail says the new tracks were laid in front of Euroa Station. They are the new east and west tracks. Meanwhile, the rail bridge over the future Anderson Street underpass had already been built.

Euroa Station upgrade enters the next works stage

Removing the old east track and platform will allow work to start on a new station forecourt. It will also make way for a car park. In addition, it will improve pedestrian access. It will also open the precinct to Railway Street and Binney Street.

Initially, Albury line services will use the new west track. Still, trains will not stop there until the western platform is completed later this year. Meanwhile, coaches will replace trains.

This temporary arrangement allows train services to use the new west track. At the same time, work can begin on removing the old east track and platform.

Also, the east track next to the station is due to be commissioned this week.

According to Inland Rail’s Euroa traffic changes page, pedestrian access and parking will change. That will continue as construction progresses. Still, temporary public parking will be available at the Euroa Hotel carpark off McGuinness Street.

Separately, the Railway Street bus stop is being moved to McGuinness Street. It will serve both V/Line and Public Transport Victoria services.

Anderson Street underpass and station access changes

Meanwhile, work on the Anderson Street underpass is continuing. To form the vehicle underpass, 40,000 cubic metres of material will be removed. That is equivalent to 16 Olympic swimming pools.

An Inland Rail spokesperson said train services were running on the new tracks. They were also running over the rail bridge. In addition, the spokesperson said this marked an important milestone for the project.

“We are now removing the old east track and platform and starting work to open the station to the town.

“The team has also made excellent progress on the excavation of the Anderson Street underpass.

“We thank the Euroa community for their patience and cooperation as we continue to transform the station precinct.”
