Vysus is an independent railway, industrial and energy consulting company formed out of the Lloyds Register Energy division. Under the contract with LKAB, it will ensure that the locomotive modernization project meets all regulatory and legal requirements, including the European Commission’s Common Safety Practices, which provide a basis for assessing the risks associated with engineering, operational and organizational changes in railways.

The contract is for one year with the possibility of extension until 2026. The electric locomotive repair program is expected to last up to six years.

LKAB is one of Sweden’s largest freight operators, accounting for about 35% of the freight on the national rail network. The IORE locomotive modernization is being carried out in conjunction with Bombardier Transportation and coordinated with the ETCS installation, which is to be implemented on the entire Malmbanan route by 2023.
