This was stated by the member of the board of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” Grigory Boyko, reports the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to Railinsider.

Analyzing the condition of the rolling stock, Grigory Boyko said that a technical and energy audit of locomotive repair plants had been carried out.

Funds for their re-equiping are pledged next year. This will take several years. According to him, the strategy for the development of the locomotive economy as a whole is being implemented in two ways: the acquisition of a new traction rolling stock and modernization.

For this, the Concept for the renewal of traction rolling stock until 2033 was approved.

Grigory Boyko also said that it is planned to continue cooperation with the American company Wabtec in terms of purchasing another 40 TE33AS diesel locomotives.

As for the situation with electric locomotives, the member of the board stressed: “We need two-system, AC and DC ones. We continue to work with the Alstom corporation to acquire 130 electric locomotives. But we understand that this will not happen in one year. Therefore, deliveries will be systematic and will end for two-system electric locomotives by about 2028. But we will continue to receive a certain number of locomotives every year ”.

At the same time, it is planned that some of the electric locomotives will be modernized, and some will be written off.
