Ukrzaliznytsia calculates taxes – almost a billion dollars a year

According to preliminary corporate reporting data, Ukrzaliznytsya in 2020 paid taxes and fees to the state and local budgets in the amount of more than UAH 25.1 billion (USD 970 million), 3.7 billion of which was land tax. This was reported by the railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to the press center of Ukrzaliznytsia.

Ukrzaliznytsia calculates taxes

The tax on land under the tracks of Ukrzaliznytsia was introduced relatively recently – the company pays it for the second year in a row, after the amendments to the Tax Code introduced by the Verkhovna Rada. In 2019, the cost of this exceeded UAH 3.8 billion.

Ukrzaliznytsia notes that these are significant funds that could be invested in upgrading critically outdated passenger railcars and improving customer service. Therefore, the railway workers insist on the abolition of the land tax.

The total area of land of the railway company is more than 209 thousand hectares, 94% of which are right-of-way for railway tracks.
