The new Vectron Dual Mode light locomotive weighs 84 tonnes and is capable of operating both from the overhead contact line and from a diesel engine.
This opens up new prospects for wagonload transport, allowing for reduced delivery times to end consumers and simplified maneuvers at stations.
DB Cargo plans to increase the share of hybrid locomotives in its fleet to 70% by 2030, indicating a commitment to reducing environmental impact and improving transport efficiency.
The Vectron Dual Mode light locomotive is equipped with modern technologies, including the national PZB train protection system, and is prepared for the installation of the European Train Control System (ETCS) onboard unit.
The collaboration between DB Cargo and Siemens Mobility has been yielding results for several years now.
The delivery of 400 Vectron Dual Mode locomotives under a framework agreement worth over 1 billion euros, as well as the signing of a contract for an additional 50 locomotives in 2022, is just the beginning.
Vectron Dual Mode machines have also been ordered by other operators and leasing companies, indicating their widespread recognition of their efficiency and market potential in freight transportation.
