The next-generation Stadler FLIRT electric trains

The next-generation Stadler FLIRT electric trains have been launched on the route between Switzerland and Italy, running from Brig to Domodossola, covering a distance of 41 km, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
Operated by the Swiss carrier BLS, these six-car low-floor electric trains, known as MIKA, are 105 meters long with 275 seating places and a maximum speed of 160 km/h.

Compared to previous FLIRT models, they feature expanded boarding/alighting areas, a bistro zone, improved mobile signal reception, and panoramic windows.
Stadler won a tender in 2017 to supply 58 of these trains, valued at $745.4 million.
The contract for 52 units from 2021 to 2025 was signed in January 2018, with an additional 6 trains ordered in 2020.
The first MIKA train entered service in May 2021, and the last train under the contract is scheduled to be launched in 2026.
