The two newest Smartron locomotives will bear the names of the Bulgarian rulers Tsar Constantin the Quiet Assen and Tsar Boris III.
It is known that Tsar Boris III was a great fan of the railway, a supporter of its development in Bulgaria and a qualified steam locomotive driver.
In this regard, the commissioning of two new locomotives took place at an official ceremony at the locomotive depot in Poduyane in the presence of a specially invited heir to the royal family N.V. Simeon Sakskoburggotsky.
The locomotive depot is a place that Tsar Boris III often visited to monitor the progress of work on the railway.

The presentation of the new locomotives was also attended by representatives of the BDZ management, the Deputy Mayor of the Sofia Municipality for Transport and Urban Mobility, as well as the Bishop of Belogradchik and the Vicar Bishop of the Sofia Metropolitan Polycarp.
Anyone who has a tablet or smartphone can get more detailed information about the history of the ruler after whom the locomotive is named. All BDZ Smartron locomotives have a specific QR code, when scanned, information about the history of the series appears at mobile device.
Another interesting detail – each locomotive depicts a Glagolitic letter, which is a unique way of promoting and preserving Bulgarian values and rich history.
Due to the supply of new locomotives and the implementation of the repair program, BDZ already has the necessary resources to implement the train schedule after overcoming the systemic shortage of locomotives.
