Finnish national operator VR Group has signed a contract with Stadler for the supply of 20 FLIRT electric trains. The contract provides for the supply of spare parts and an option to purchase another 50 trains and complete maintenance of the rolling stock. The new trains will serve regional traffic around Helsinki and Tampere. If necessary, they can be used in long-distance communications. Rolling stock deliveries will begin in the spring of 2026. Four-car trains, designed for a speed of 160 km/h, have 356 seats with a total capacity of 796 people.

The rolling stock will be prepared for operation in the northern climate. Trains are equipped with reinforced track cleaners and efficient air conditioning, ventilation and heating systems with floor heating in the salons in the area of ​​the entrance doors, and also provide for protection measures for traction equipment. Currently, 81 FLIRT electric trains are operated in Finland, in addition, trains of this series run in Norway, Sweden and Estonia.
