Škoda Vagonka starts production of new electric trains for Latvia
Škoda Vagonka has started production of new electric trains for Latvia, within the framework of a contract concluded in July 2019 with Pasažieru vilciens, informs Railway Supply magazine referring to the information portal Delfi.

32 new electric trains will be delivered by the end of 2023, the delivery of the first trains, according to the contract, will begin within 140 weeks after the entry into force of the contract.
The certification, testing and commissioning of trains will be carried out by the manufacturer – Škoda Vagonka. The customer – Pasažieru vilciens receives trains completely ready for the passenger transportation. They will consist of four railcars, the length of one electric train is 109 meters. The train will have 436 seats. Pasažieru vilciens already uses 26 electric trains of different lengths, the total number of seats in which is about 10 thousand.
New trains from Škoda Vagonka will be able to reach speeds of up to 160 km/h (currently 130 km/h) and will run in the direction of Aizkraukle, Tukums, Skulte and Jelgava.
Pasažieru vilciens is the only company in Latvia dealing with wide gauge passenger transportation. The company was founded in 2001 by spinning off from the Latvian Railways company. Serves 12 routes, 4 of which are electrified.
