Czech company Skoda Group has signed a contract for the complete reconstruction and modernization of passenger cars for the Austrian state railway operator OBB

The agreement includes the refurbishment of 6 Nightjet sleeping cars with the possibility of modernizing an additional 28 units, according to the railway journal Railway Supply, citing Skoda Group.

Several improvements will be made as part of the modernization, including more comfortable beds, modern lighting, improved bathrooms, and new barrier-free compartments.

The modernization work will be carried out at the production site in the Czech city of Sumperk, and the delivery of the upgraded rolling stock is planned for 2024.

In February of this year, Skoda established a subsidiary in Austria, combining two divisions in Vienna and Schwaz based on the assets of the company Molinari Rail Austria.

The management of the parent company noted that the subsidiary will have significant autonomy in its operations.
