Siemens Mobility will equip two electric trains with ETCS and Automatic Train Operation (ATO) systems
17.01.2024
Siemens Mobility and the Finnish company Pääkaupunkiseudun Junakalusto are collaborating on implementing advanced ETCS and ATO systems for two electric trains under the DigiRail program in Finland, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
These trains are intended for the first trials of equipment compliant with the operational compatibility requirements adopted in 2023 in Scandinavia.
The installation of ETCS and ATO with GoA2 automation level is expected to make the trials more efficient and enhance line capacity while reducing energy consumption.
Pääkaupunkiseudun Junakalusto, established by the municipalities of the capital region, serves as the owner and manager of the train fleet in the region.
This collaboration aligns with the trend of digitizing railway infrastructure, as demonstrated by Thales signing an agreement in April 2021 to supply ETCS Level 2 equipment for a test section in southern Finland.
These initiatives reflect a commitment to innovation and modern technology in the railway transportation sector in the region.
