Russian Railways has increased transportation and transit of containers

In January-February of 2021, 964.2 thousand loaded and empty TEU containers were transported via the Russian Railways network in all types of traffic, which is 11.6% more than in the same period in 2020. The largest increase is in transit traffic – 152.7 thousand TEU, which is 1.8 times more than the same indicator last year, informs Railway Supply magazine citing information from Russian Railways.

Domestic traffic is 369.3 thousand TEU (+ 4.5%), export traffic is 244 thousand TEU (+ 3.6%), import is 198.2 thousand TEU (+ 3.8%).

The greatest growth was observed for transportation of machines, machine tools, engines (53.7 thousand TEU, 1.5 times more); ferrous metals (38.8 thousand TEU, 1.4 times more); grain (6.2 thousand TEU, an increase of 4.2 times).

In addition, the transportation of vegetables, industrial goods, hardware, automobiles and components, non-ferrous metals and ore increased. At the same time, the volumes of oil and oil products, fish, flour, fertilizers and metal structures decreased. The transportation of timber in containers remained approximately at the same level.
