Poland completes project to modernize 182 railway crossings

PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe SA is actively implementing the project “Improving safety at the intersection of railway lines with highways”. Within the framework of this project it is planned to modernize 182 level crossings. Currently, work has been carried out at 129 sites. The project is planned to be fully completed this year reports railway magazine Railway Supply referring to nakolei.pl.

According to the newspaper, work has recently been completed to improve safety at 16 level crossings in the Lubelskie Voivodeship, in particular, in the cities of Luków and Chelm. PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe SA allocated 23 million zlotys for this.

The work provides for equipping crossings with additional modern safety devices – barriers, traffic lights, sound alarms, lighting – or replacing existing equipment. At the same time, remote control and video surveillance devices are installed.

The project “Improving safety at the intersection of railways and highways” with a total value of about PLN 250 million net is co-financed by the European Union from the Cohesion Fund.
