Pesa hydrogen locomotive arrived at the test site in Żmigród
31.10.2022
Pesa Bydgoszcz shunting locomotive is starting the most important stage – the certification tests of the Railway Institute. Tonight the locomotive arrived from Bydgoszcz to the test site. It is reported by Railway Supply magazine with reference to Nakolei.
Dynamic tests begin, including those related to refueling with hydrogen. An integral element of these tests will be a mobile filling station. This solution was presented by Pesa and Orlen at the Berlin InnoTrans exhibition.
It is worth noting that the locomotive has already passed preliminary tests at the Pesa plant. In August, the hydrogen diesel locomotive was put into operation and passed the first operational tests. In the meantime, in September, the locomotive went to Berlin for an exhibition, where a statement was made by President Krzysztof Zdziarski: “After the exhibition, it will pass the final acceptance tests in Żmigród, and in the first quarter of next year it will be put into operation at the PKN ORLEN plant in Płock “.
The Pesa schedule is ambitious. The manufacturer assumes that by the end of the year it will be able to close the issue of preparing documentation and transfer the documents to the Railway Transport Department. So the approval will be finally received in the first quarter of 2023.
If successful, the SM42-6Dn will become Poland’s first certified hydrogen locomotive. Moreover, it will be the first such locomotive approved for the European market.
