Moldova and Ukraine simplify the procedure for controlling freight rail traffic
17.03.2023
The Moldovan government has approved a protocol to the Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, which provides for the modification of the railway transport, Railway Supply magazine reports with reference to URM.
As noted, the protocol will simplify the control procedures of customs and border authorities, which will speed up the rail transit of goods through the territory of Ukraine with a destination in Moldova and Romania and through the territory of Moldova with a destination in Ukraine and Romania. The modification will increase the volume of goods transported by rail.
Polregio carried nearly 90 million passengers in 2022
The project introduces changes to eliminate the control of the customs and border authorities of Ukraine at the Reni station. This will reduce the time of transportation of goods from / to the port complex of Giurgiulesti or Romania and will positively affect the final cost of goods exported / imported by the beneficiaries from the Republic of Moldova, reducing transport costs.
In addition, it is assumed that the cargo will be redirected from the road segment to the rail. As a result, the load on national roads will decrease, which will increase the volume of transit cargo through the territory of the Republic of Moldova and will positively affect the national economy.
