The STM trading house will deliver 22 two-section freight electric locomotives 2ES7 to Kazakhstan for the SilkwayTransit freight carrier. Under the terms of the contract, the start of deliveries of rolling stock is scheduled for the end of 2021, the rest will be delivered to the customer within nine months.

This is the first STM contract for the supply of electric locomotives to Kazakhstan and the first export order for the 2EC7 electric locomotive. Earlier this year, STM, in partnership with Eurotrans Group, established STM Kazakhstan subsidiary in the country. In total for the last 10 years STM has delivered to Kazakhstan more than 350 units of equipment, including diesel locomotives, railequipment and hoppers.

The national company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) and French Alstom have signed an agreement providing for the production of 250 freight and 119 passenger electric locomotives at the IVF plant in Nur-Sultan (JV Alstom and TMH) by 2029. Since 2013, the company has produced 95 freight and 27 passenger electric locomotives. 24 freight locomotives were exported to Azerbaijan.

The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin and the head of Alstom Henri Pupar-Lafarge have agreed to increase the level of localization of components in the country from the current 38% to 50% by 2025. In monetary terms, the localization will be 11.7 million per year.

This year, Kazakhstan Carriage Company has produced 1,000 gondola cars for Gaztemirtrans (part of KTZ). The capacity of the enterprise reached 150 cars per month. In turn, Kazakhstan’s “Prommashkomplekt” produced about 120 thousand railway wheels (in 2020 – 154 thousand wheels).
