Signalling and Safety Upgrades Along the Gippsland Line
From Saturday, June 14, to Wednesday, August 13, coaches will replace trains on the Traralgon and Bairnsdale lines during parts of the journey. This replacement allows for safe and efficient delivery of the remaining works.
Workers will install signalling cables and trackside systems between Drouin and Traralgon. These components form the backbone of the new system, enabling smoother, more frequent operations along the line.
In addition, teams will conduct safety testing on a 70-kilometer stretch, provide driver training, and commission upgraded platforms at Traralgon and Morwell. These steps ensure safe, efficient service for future commuters.
New Services and Benefits for Gippsland Line Passengers
Funded by the Victorian and Australian governments, the project has already delivered key upgrades, including a new bridge over the Avon River in Stratford and improved station infrastructure.
Passengers will also benefit from more accessible, modern VLocity trains that will now reach Bairnsdale. These enhancements make travel faster and more comfortable for all users.
The Department of Transport and Planning is finalizing a new timetable. Details on updated service schedules for the Gippsland Line will be announced soon.
This comprehensive upgrade promises safer, more frequent, and more reliable travel, ensuring long-term benefits for eastern Victoria’s transport network.
