Expansion of the hydrogen locomotive fleet of the railway

Expansion of the hydrogen locomotive fleet of the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) railway continues with the acquisition of 12 additional fuel cell modules, each with a capacity of 200 kW, from Ballard Power Systems, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.
This fleet expansion will enable CPKC to retrofit more locomotives for maneuvering and freight transport in Alberta, supported by a provincial emissions reduction program that includes infrastructure development for hydrogen production and refueling.
Delivery of 280 six-axle freight and passenger cars
Strengthening its commitment to eco-friendly transportation, CPKC has ordered a total of 38 fuel cell modules, totaling 7.6 MW, over the past two years.
The new locomotives are expected to be operational in the second half of 2024.
