Canadian rail industry will help Ukraine
The Governments of Ukraine and Canada, the national railway Ukrzaliznytsia and the Railway Association of Canada, on behalf of Canadian Railways, have formed a working group to support the reconstruction of Ukraine’s transport infrastructure and increase the sustainability of railway assets. It is reported by the Railway Supply magazine with reference to the Railway Gazette.
Objectives of the working group include:
- supporting the rebuilding of rail infrastructure;
- maximising rail capacity;
- working with the Canadian rail industry to implement core objectives and expertise;
- analysing challenges to the movement of Ukrainian export commodities by rail;
- identifying practical solutions with government and industry allies.
Transport Canada said that Canadian Railways has significant experience and knowledge in the field of transportation of large volumes of goods and will provide information and recommendations to Ukraine.
“The Government of Canada will leverage broader partnerships with industry and supply chains that can help guide rail freight decisions,” Transportation Minister Omar Algabra said on September 28.
“Together with our industry partners, we will ensure the continuous movement of people and essential goods and products that are vital to maintaining the health and well-being of Ukrainians.”
