Azerbaijan unblocks direct railway communication with Russia for Armenia
Azerbaijan agreed to unblock direct railway communication with the Russian Federation and Iran for Armenia.
Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan writes about this on his Twitter page, informs Railway Supply magazine.
“At a trilateral meeting with Charles Michel and the President of Azerbaijan, we confirmed the agreement on the restoration of the railway on the basis of internationally acceptable border and customs rules of reciprocity under the sovereignty and authority of the countries. Armenia will get railway access to Russia and Iran, ”writes Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
On the eve, the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia held talks in Brussels. They also spoke about the restoration of the railway infrastructure.
It was decided to start the restoration of the railway lines with appropriate measures of border and customs control on the basis of the principle of reciprocity.
It should be noted that now Armenia uses automobile transit through the territory of Georgia through the checkpoint “Upper Lars” on the Georgian Military Road for communication with Russia.
So the restoration of the railway service will have a positive effect on the country economy.
