Another Smartron electric locomotive put into operation in Bulgaria
The third locomotive Smartron (Siemens) was delivered and included in the train schedule of the Bulgarian Railway. According to the tradition of giving new electric locomotives the names of one of the country’s historical rulers, the locomotive will be named after Khan Kardam. It will serve flights between Sofia and Svilengrad, reports railway magazine Railway Supply with reference to the website of the Bulgarian Railway.

The new locomotive was personally inspected by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and Minister of Transport, Information Technologies and Communications Rosen Zhelyazkov, who visited the Sofia locomotive depot and the central station.
The first two Smartron locomotives run with trains on the Sofia – Burgas and Sofia – Varna directions. An interesting detail is that a specific Glagolitic letter is applied to the body of each electric locomotive to remind of the rich history of Bulgaria.
By the end of the year, 15 Smartron locomotives will be delivered to Bulgaria in accordance with the contract signed with Siemens.
