The contract is valued at around SGD 199 million. It covers the design and construction of tunnels between the existing Bukit Panjang station and the future DE1 station on the DTL2e, as reported by Railway-News.

Downtown Line 2 extension tunnel works

The project includes twin bored tunnels. Also, each tunnel will be roughly 1.8 kilometres long. They will be built beneath Woodlands Road and existing infrastructure, including the Kranji Expressway flyover.

Because the works are close to Bukit Panjang station, construction will take place within a limited work area. Meanwhile, LTA will coordinate with relevant agencies and with SBS Transit, the Downtown Line operator. Sensitive works will be carried out during non-operating hours. This will help minimise the impact on existing railway structures and DTL commuters.

Construction timeline and operational planning

Separately, LTA and its contractors will implement real-time monitoring of ground stability. In addition, they will apply relevant safety measures. These steps are intended to ensure construction is carried out safely. They are also intended to reduce the impact on nearby stakeholders and infrastructure.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026. At the same time, passenger service on the DTL2e is set to start in 2035. Once operational, the extension will include three stations. It will also improve rail connectivity in the north-western region.
