CSX’s TRANSFLO unit has opened its Petersburg transload terminal in Virginia, giving shippers without their own rail sidings 40 railcar spots and the capability to handle liquefied petroleum gas.

TRANSFLO first announced the facility in November 2025 and later set March 30, 2026 as the planned opening date. Its current announcement says the terminal is open but does not restate the day operations began. The terminal stands at 3500 Halifax Road in Petersburg.

What the Petersburg terminal offers

TRANSFLO lists 40 car spots, LPG capability and conveyor capacity as the main features of the site. It lies close to Interstates 95 and 85 and U.S. Route 460. Its announcement does not name the products expected to move through Petersburg, the cost of the project or the first customers.

The company also cites a cut of up to 75% in greenhouse gas emissions when freight moves by rail. It gives no figure measured at the Petersburg terminal itself.

TRANSFLO, a CSX subsidiary, transfers bulk goods between railcars and trucks, and its customers include companies that are not rail-served. CSX says the unit handles more than 300 product types, from chemicals, plastics and ethanol to dry bulk, food-grade goods and waste. TRANSFLO puts its network at over 40 active terminals.

With 40 car spots, the Petersburg terminal lists more rail positions than the 24 at TRANSFLO’s Memphis site. Both pages describe the terminals as new. Petersburg in CSX’s first-quarter results

CSX included the new terminal in its first-quarter 2026 earnings presentation on April 22, repeating the 40 car spots, LPG capability and highway access. On the same slide, the railroad reported adding 21 rail-served properties to its Select Sites program, which brought the program to 80 certified sites.

Elsewhere in the presentation, CSX said 21 industrial development projects entered service in the first quarter and that it expected about 100 in 2026. It put its project pipeline at roughly 600.
