Response and medical update

Investigators said the teenager was taken to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition. One day later, the 17-year-old Brandon High School student died, a development also reported by FOX 13 Tampa Bay (FOX 13 Tampa Bay).

As deputies continued their investigation, they said the teen had been walking on the tracks toward Brandon High School when a train approached from behind. Deputies said a pair of headphones was found near the victim, but they were still working to determine how the accident occurred. Dense fog was observed in the area at the time, and law enforcement said the case remains an active investigation.
