CSX railway equips wagons and containers with telematics devices
03.04.2023
The Class A North American railway CSX, with its 36,000-kilometer network, is beginning to equip its freight cars and containers with telematics equipment featuring embedded GPS satellite navigation receivers. In particular, it will use on-board units made by the Swiss company Nexxiot, which is actively entering the North American market. This is what Railway Supply magazine reports with reference to zdmira.
Information on the current coordinates of wagons and containers will be transmitted via communication satellites to the central CSX database, allowing customers to continuously track the location of their cargo.
Polregio carried nearly 90 million passengers in 2022
All CSX rolling stock is currently equipped with on-board automatic identification system sensors, information from which is read by floor devices installed at rolling stock monitoring stations and at approaches to stations and depots.
CSX expects that the introduction of the new technology will attract new customers to the railway.
