CRRC has unveiled new details about the CR450AF train, designed to reach 450 km/h and deliver innovative solutions for energy efficiency and enhanced safety. This is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The company developed two prototypes — CR450AF and CR450BF — under unified China Railway standards. However, CRRC Changchun built its model from scratch instead of upgrading the CR400AF platform.

The new train’s weight was reduced by 10% through carbon fiber use, while axle load is now under 14.5 tons. Resistance dropped by 22%, and braking capability improved by 20%.

Energy consumption at 400 km/h decreased to 22 kWh/km, and noise levels fell by 2–4 dB. To achieve these results, CRRC implemented a permanent magnet traction system and advanced braking technologies.

CRRC technologies integrated in CR450 trains

Safety relies on a multi-level emergency braking system and over 4,000 sensors. They monitor bogies, carbody, pantographs, and fire systems in real time.

The “beyond-visibility” system helps detect track hazards early, increasing reliability and reducing accident risks at high speeds.

CRRC testing milestones and CR450 project goals

During tests, the train reached 453 km/h and crossed the Meizhou Bay Bridge at record speed. Next trials will take place on the Chengdu–Chongqing section, where infrastructure upgrades target speeds up to 400 km/h.

The project involves reinforced subgrade, bridges, and turnouts, along with noise barriers and new rail joints. CRRC launched the “Scientific and Technological Innovation” program in 2021 to advance high-speed transport technologies.
