Container wagon handling robot under development
12.10.2022
Hamburger Hafen & Logistik and the Fraunhofer Center for Maritime Logistics and Services are developing an autonomous mobile robot with a gripping arm for the automatic handling of folding fitting pins on container cars. It is reported by the Railway Supply magazine with reference to the Railway Gazette.
Fitting pins are installed in various places on container cars and currently, depending on the size of the container, are lifted or moved manually, which is time consuming.
The autonomous robot and its software will be developed and tested in real conditions. They will be connected to the port logistics system and the control center will be able to control and manage the processing of fitting pins.
Rail subsidiary HHLA Metrans will provide railcars and operational data integration. The project is supported by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure as part of the IHATEC Innovative Port Technology Initiative.
