May Day return traffic and extra services

On Monday alone, trains across China carried more than 20.38 million passengers. The Tuesday arrangements reflected the expected rise in return-trip traffic. Around 23 million passengers were projected to travel, and 2,225 extra train services were arranged.

Meanwhile, data from the official railway ticket-booking platform showed the most popular destinations on Tuesday. China Daily cited Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Chengdu and Shenzhen in that group.

Also, railway authorities have been deploying additional capacity for the return-travel peak. The aim was to maintain safe, orderly passenger flows. For example, 707 extra trains were arranged for popular routes in Guangdong Province, south China.
