CAF has won the tender to supply 121 trams. These trams will serve new and existing lines in Rome, Italy, for the public transport company ATAC, as reported by the railway portal Railway Supply.

The deal, valued at €457 million, includes the initial contract for the delivery of the first 40 trams.

The new trams will replace the old Stanga-class city trams on existing lines and will also serve the Archeotram line, which serves Rome’s central archaeological area.

These trams will be 33.5 meters long and capable of carrying up to 215 passengers, with 68 seats and two spaces for passengers with limited mobility.

They will be equipped with air conditioning, video surveillance systems, announcement systems, passenger counting, and a collision warning system.

In the public tender, Hitachi, Stadler, and Skoda also participated.

CAF’s proposal reduced the tender amount by more than 10 percent and shortened the delivery times, with the first tram planned for dispatch 18 months after contract signing.
