Kilmarnock station track layout changes
Network Rail plans to deliver £13.5 million of upgrades this summer to modernise the track layout through Kilmarnock station.
The existing infrastructure restricts train speeds, while the new layout is intended to allow services to move through Kilmarnock faster and more smoothly.
Engineers will improve the southern approach to platforms three and four so trains can enter the station at higher speeds.
For southbound services leaving platform four, sections of track will be rebuilt and simplified to reduce equipment wear and improve day-to-day reliability.
At platform three, part of the track used by trains to change lines will be moved farther from the station, giving southbound services a smoother and quicker exit.
