Amtrak marks NextGen Acela fleet milestone

At Washington Union Station, Amtrak President Roger Harris joined staff to thank customers through surprise-and-delight activities.

“Our guests are at the heart of this milestone – one million trips on NextGen Acela is a powerful signal of the demand for world-class passenger rail in America,” said Amtrak President Roger Harris. “It’s our joy to celebrate with our customers this Memorial Day Weekend, as you travel and experience the best of high-speed, premium rail.”

Also, Amtrak linked the added NextGen Acela departures to rising demand. The company said the change gives riders more flexibility on America’s busiest passenger rail line.
