Amtrak Flex Dining menu: new lunch options for sleepers
04.02.2026
Amtrak Flex Dining menu is getting a broader lineup for Long Distance sleeping car guests, with new lunch options added to improve the onboard experience, according to an update from Amtrak Media.

Instead of relying on the same shared offerings for both lunch and dinner, the change gives travelers a clearer choice between lighter meals and the existing heartier entrees.
What’s new on the expanded Flex Dining menu?
At lunch, the new selections come with either chips or a dinner roll and bring select favorites from Amtrak’s National Cafe menu into the Dining Car lunch offerings.

The list includes a Turkey & Cheddar Sub on a multigrain roll, a Ham & Swiss Sandwich on a pretzel roll with honey mustard, and a Fresh Greek Salad with feta cheese and balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Alongside those, Amtrak is also adding familiar classics: an Angus Cheeseburger and an All-Beef Hot Dog. For a full look at what’s posted, Amtrak also provides the Flexible Dining menu PDF.
Routes offering Amtrak Flex Dining lunch service
Flex Dining is offered on five Long Distance trains across Amtrak’s National Network. That group includes the Cardinal between New York and Chicago; the City of New Orleans between Chicago and New Orleans; the Crescent between New York and New Orleans; and the Lake Shore Limited, which runs between New York/Boston and Chicago. The Texas Eagle is also included, with Flex Dining applying only for service between Chicago and San Antonio, as reflected on Amtrak’s Flexible Dining service page.
Flex Dining for sleeping car guests: timing and delivery
The idea behind Flex Dining is flexibility in timing, whether guests choose to eat in the dining car or have their meal delivered to their room by an attendant. Amtrak directs passengers to the updated menus and additional details through its “learn more” information link.
