Alstom Innovia APM R delivery finishes DEN’s 26-car base order
04.02.2026
Alstom Innovia APM R delivery has finished Denver International Airport’s (DEN) base order this week, the company said on 2 February 2026 in an Alstom press release.

The new automated people mover (APM) vehicles are intended to raise system capacity and shorten intervals between trains as DEN continues to welcome more travelers.
Alstom Innovia APM R delivery: fleet numbers and timeline
The last car completes an initial order of 26 Innovia APM R vehicles for DEN’s Automated Guideway Transit System (AGTS). The first Innovia APM R cars entered service at DEN in 2024, and 24 vehicles are in service to date.

Alstom also noted that DEN ordered an additional 19 cars last year, as previously covered by Railway Supply, which will replace all 31 original vehicles and expand the fleet to 45 cars, as reported by Railway Gazette International.
Michael Keroullé, CEO of Alstom Americas, said the Innovia vehicles support the airport’s future plans by helping DEN enhance its transit capabilities and accommodate increasing passenger demand. He added that, even with the base order complete, Alstom will keep working to support DEN’s vision for a modern and efficient airport transportation network.
Capacity gains and energy performance at Denver International Airport
DEN’s train to the concourses serves over 150,000 riders each day, according to Phil Washington, CEO of DEN. He said the airport is working to accommodate current and future passenger volume while maintaining these critical assets as operations grow.
Alstom said the new Innovia APM R fleet has increased system capacity by approximately 1,700 people per hour and reduced the time between arriving trains. The company also pointed to lightweight aluminum car bodies assembled using recyclable materials, along with a more efficient power supply that improves the airport’s energy consumption by more than 30%, reflecting DEN’s and Alstom’s shared commitment to sustainable mobility.
West Mifflin production and the 2025–2032 O&M contract
The Innovia APM R vehicles were manufactured and tested at Alstom’s site in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, which the company describes as its global center for automated people movers. The facility builds Innovia APM cars for airports, cities, and destinations around the world and sits at the heart of Alstom’s quality control and testing processes, aimed at meeting high standards of reliability and efficiency.
Alstom has continuously operated and maintained DEN’s AGTS since the system opened in 1995. In November 2024, Denver International Airport signed a new seven-year operations and maintenance contract with Alstom covering the period from 2025 to 2032. Alstom said its DEN team includes 101 employees supporting 24/7 operations and maintenance.
Alstom described the driverless Innovia APM as a market-leading solution for more than 50 years, designed to provide quick and convenient service within airports and cities. The company said it has supplied more than 30 automated people mover systems globally, currently operating in 13 of the world’s busiest airports, and that in the United States it is the number one provider and operator of airport people movers.
As a rolling stock and rail services provider in the U.S., Alstom added that it has delivered more than 12,000 new or renovated vehicles for domestic rail agencies and airports, including those in New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Boston, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, and New Jersey, and has delivered the first high-speed trains made in America.
The company also said it is the number one private rail operator in the country, serving more than 20 rail and airport customers and moving millions of passengers daily.
