Western Railway Ahmedabad Division car transport and the decade shift

Also, they said the facility enabled large-scale vehicle dispatch by rail, lifting freight capacity, improving operational efficiency, and strengthening asset utilisation. They added that it supported faster and more reliable distribution for manufacturers, in line with details shared in a Maruti Suzuki press release.

At the same time, the Hansalpur project also received international recognition and was declared the world’s first “modal shift transportation project”, which officials described as a major achievement for the division.

Carbon emissions reduction estimate and rail vs road costs

Officials said the Hansalpur project increased freight movement in the division and was estimated to reduce around 1.7 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions. Separately, they also said rail-based vehicle movement is typically 15–20% cheaper than road transport, as The Economic Times noted in related coverage.

In addition, officials said the project will strengthen the development of more private freight terminals and railway sidings in Ahmedabad Division.
