New Australind train enters testing

The two new Australind trains are now being tested on the South West Main Line. They will run between Bunbury and Perth, as Railway Supply reported. Each is a three-car railcar set. Each is also a diesel variant of the Transperth C-series train.

They were built at Alstom’s Bellevue Railcar Manufacturing and Maintenance Facility. They were built there as part of the WA Railcar Program. They will feature modern interiors, more storage space for bicycles and USB charging ports. They will also have an upgraded buffet.

Australind service delays and replacement buses

The Australind service was suspended in November 2023. That month, the Armadale Line was closed for upgrades. Commuters are still using replacement buses while the new trains remain delayed. The closure also marked the retirement of the ADP/ADQ class trainsets. The last two services ran that month.

The new trains had been expected to enter service in the first quarter of 2026. Still, there have been delays, as Rail Express reported. Roger Cook said there will be an announcement “soon”. It will cover when the trains will be ready for passengers.
