Australind trains testing is now underway on the South West Main Line between Perth and Bunbury in Western Australia. Two newly built trainsets are running trials on the corridor, as reported by Rail Express.

Testing is being carried out with two three-car railcar sets on the Perth-to-Bunbury route. Also, both sets are diesel variants of the Transperth C-series train.
They were built at Alstom’s Bellevue Railcar Manufacturing and Maintenance Facility. In addition, the work sits within the WA Railcar Program, as outlined by METRONET WA.
Why the Australind service was suspended?
Australind services have been suspended since November 2023. At the same time, operations stopped as the Armadale Line was closed for upgrades.

The closure also marked the retirement of the ADP/ADQ class trainsets. The final two services operated that month. Still, the earlier Australind service faced reliability issues, and replacement coaches were regularly required, as previously covered by Railway Supply.
What the new trains will offer?
When Australind services resume, the new trains are set to feature modern interiors. They are also set to offer greater storage space for bicycles, USB charging ports, and an upgraded buffet.
A commencement date has not yet been announced. Meanwhile, the service is expected to return in the coming months.
