Victoria Completes Massive 3-Week Frankston Line Upgrade Bringing Stations Back Online
26.05.2026
Mordialloc Station is now serving passengers in Melbourne, with Frankston Line services restored after a three-week construction program. The opening also brings a safety change for Mordialloc and Aspendale, where three level crossings have been removed.

Mordialloc Station reopens with new passenger facilities
The new elevated station has entrances at both ends, along with lift and stair access, a passenger waiting room, toilets and seating. A one-kilometre walking and cycling path has also been built through the station precinct, giving people another route through the area.
The reopening came after an intensive construction blitz on the Frankston Line. The official Victoria’s Big Build update confirms that services have returned through the rebuilt station. For passengers, that means trains are back through Mordialloc; for the surrounding area, the works change how trains, vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists move around key local roads.
Level crossings removed in Mordialloc and Aspendale
Three level crossings described as dangerous and congested have been removed in Mordialloc and Aspendale. The Mordialloc level crossings project page sets out the rail bridge approach, with trains now running over McDonald Street in Mordialloc and Station Street in Aspendale.
The road layout has changed as well. A new road connection and signal-controlled intersection now link Station Street with Nepean Highway, reducing congestion in the area.
Together with the Bear Street level crossing, which closed permanently in August last year, around 26,000 vehicles used these crossings every day. In the morning peak, boom gates could stay down for up to 40 minutes, delaying drivers.
The Victorian Government says removing the crossings will improve safety by separating trains from vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists. Since 2016, the three sites had recorded one fatality and 12 near misses. Railway Supply had also previously covered the Mordialloc level crossing removals in Mordialloc and Aspendale.
