Union Pacific Iowa grain shuttle facility service has begun at Heartland Co-op’s new site in Millerton, Iowa. Meanwhile, as reported by Progressive Railroading, the Class I said yesterday the facility is fully operational and is handling its first trainloads.

The Heartland Co-op grain shuttle facility in Millerton, Iowa is set up to serve farmers in south-central Iowa. In addition, it expands access to key domestic and export markets through Union Pacific’s network, as Union Pacific notes.
Shared investment between Union Pacific and Heartland Co-op
UP officials said the development was a shared investment between Union Pacific and Heartland Co-op in Iowa agriculture. Separately, the total project cost was not disclosed in the press release.

5.5 million bushel grain capacity for corn and soybean markets
Union Pacific announced construction on the Millerton site in August 2024, and the shuttle facility was built on UP’s existing network in Millerton. Still, according to Heartland Co-op’s Millerton facility page, the terminal has 5.5 million bushels of grain capacity and serves the corn and soybean markets.
