4.5 billion rupees have been allocated by the State Bank of India for the development of Chennai Metro Rail Limited, this is reported by the railway transport news portal Railway Supply.

The modernization of the metro

The funds will be used for acquiring automated turnstiles and 30 metro carriages as part of the second phase of Chennai’s metro modernization.

Out of this, 1.5 billion rupees are designated for turnstiles on the Koyambedu-Sipcot line, while 3 billion rupees are allocated for carriages on the same line.

CMRL had previously entered into contracts with Alstom for the supply of unmanned train sets.

Deals worth 2.69 billion and 7.98 billion rupees will facilitate the modernization and expansion of the Chennai metro.
