Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) and HyperloopTT are ready to present the HyperPort project: in other words, a container transport model using Hyperloop technology. Both companies are developing this concept to improve connectivity between seaports and hinterland, and to increase the capacity and efficiency of terminals.

HyperloopTT is an American research and development company. It has partnered with HHLA since late 2018 when they first submitted designs for the HyperPort project. The partners are now ready to demonstrate their success using virtual reality, informs Railway Supply magazine, citing RailFreight.

Capsule containers

HyperPort is committed to using high-speed capsules to transport containers between ports and inland destinations. In particular, the transport capsule can accommodate two 20 ‘or one 40 or 45’ containers per route. The containers will be loaded into the capsules vertically through the opening at the top of the capsule. They will travel at a speed of hundreds of kilometers per hour, allowing up to 2,800 containers per day to be transported “in a closed work environment, without movement or environmental influences,” HHLA reports.

The transport capsules are designed by the Spanish industrial design company Mormedi in collaboration with the Spanish engineering firm CT Ingenieros and are ready for construction. “Using the same underlying technology as our passenger systems, HyperPort can provide future-proof supply chains while reducing the burden on port regions,” said Andres De Leon, CEO of HyperloopTT.
