The Czech railway infrastructure operator Správa železnic (SŽ) has announced preliminary market consultations on a project to build the Prague-Laughs-Beroun line, which will be laid mainly underground. The cost of this project is estimated at 38 billion Czech kroons ($ 1.76 billion).

According to SŽ, it is one of the largest transport projects in the country, informs Railway Supply magaine.

The new double-track railway line will free up additional suburban capacity on the existing railway between Prague-Smihiv and Beroun, as well as make passenger and freight transport more attractive not only between Prague and Beroun, but also between Pilsen, Nuremberg and Nuremberg.

A video conference will be held on February 10, 2022 to acquaint potential contractors with the scope of work on the project. Companies with experience in the construction of tunnels with a length of at least 500 m will be able to take part in preliminary market consultations.

Construction of a new rolling stock service center

The fire safety project includes the construction of two 25-kilometer single-track tunnels connected by galleries and five evacuation exits. The main volume of work at a depth of up to 150 m will be performed by four tunnel complexes, which will start work from construction sites in the area of ​​future emergency exits.

The maximum speed of passenger and freight trains will be 200 km/h with a decrease in front of the station Prague-Smikhov to 100 – 120 km/h and in front of the station Beroun – up to 160 km/h.

Documentation is currently being developed to start zoning the route. Completion of this work is scheduled for 2023.

Documentation for obtaining building permits will be prepared during 2024 – 2026. Construction will be carried out in 2027 – 2036, but may begin in 2025, provided that the relevant documentation is prepared at that time and contracts are concluded.
