The assembly of Amtrak Airo trains is commencing

Production of Amtrak Airo trains is in full swing, and the assembly process has already begun, this is reported by the railway transport news portal, Railway Supply.
The project involves 100 suppliers in 31 states responsible for manufacturing and delivering 3,500 components, as reported by the American intercity rail operator, Amtrak.

The new trains will enhance the travel experience with spacious interiors, panoramic windows, ample legroom, two- and one-seat arrangements, dedicated power outlets, USB ports, and built-in Wi-Fi.
The trains will also offer improved accessibility with onboard passenger lifts, enhanced access space, and improved audio and visual announcements, enhancing the experience for all passengers.
In 2021, Amtrak and Siemens Mobility signed a framework agreement for the production of 73 of the most modern trains, with options for an additional 130 trains to meet Amtrak’s future demand.
The new fleet will provide modern rail amenities that will better serve Amtrak customers.
Delivery of Battery-Diesel Hybrid Locomotives
Details of the Amtrak Airo design were unveiled in 2022, and in August 2023, the rail operator secured a contract for an additional 10 trains, bringing the total order to 83.
The production of the new trains has begun at the Siemens Mobility plant in Sacramento, California.
The first Amtrak Airo train is scheduled to enter passenger service in 2026, and once delivered, the new fleet will be deployed on 14 routes, including the Northeast Regional route.
